how it all works
There is no such thing as a typical shoot! This is bespoke photography, so each one is treated very individually, depending on the age range and number of children/adults, what the weather is doing and yours and your children's personalities.
As a mother myself, I am very aware of just how unpredictable (or awkward!) children can be, which is why I like to allow approximately two hours to be spent on each shoot, which gives everyone the chance to relax, have some fun and perhaps visit a favourite location like a park or a walk in the woods as well as taking some shots around your home.
My young children’s portrait sessions usually work best first thing in the morning - this is when children are full of energy and ready for anything! For older children and teenagers, (who maybe don’t get up at the crack of dawn anymore!) we can schedule the session for late afternoon or early evening in the summer months.
We take as many snack breaks/coffee breaks/naps/nappy changes as needed and just ‘go with the flow’ whether that be playing games, making mud pies or reading books. This way you will have a wide variety of photographs reflecting your children’s true characters and what they love to do. There is obviously some direction involved, especially if you wish to get some group or sibling photographs but I try to keep this to a minimum. There is nothing more guaranteed to affect the natural energy and spark of a child than being told to 'sit still and say cheese'!
With newborn photography sessions, we can work within their sleep and feed patterns so that we have a very relaxed session that works around your baby's needs.
Maternity photography sessions usually take place sometime during your 3rd trimester so that we can really capture that wonderful growing bump!
